Cow Appreciation Day!

Chick-fil-A’s annual Cow Appreciation Day is this Friday, July 13. What does this mean for me, you ask?  FREE FOOD, of course!  That’s right, dress like a cow and get free food.  There is no limit, so load up the kids and neighbors and enjoy some of that delicious Chick-fil-A fare.  A full costume earns you a free meal!  Partial costumes get you a free entree.  Not a bad deal for minimal effort.  We love a bargain, so you know we’ll be there sporting our black spots and udders.  This wonderful event happens just once a year, so don’t miss out!

Check out this link for all the particulars and some cute costume ideas.

MOOOOOOO!

Mini-Pedicure with Homemade Foot Scrub

Make your DIY pedicure just as fabulous as the salon variety with this…..

Fabulous Foot Scrub

Recipe: Mix the following ingredients.

    • 2 cups brown sugar
    • 1/4 cup olive oil
    • 2 tbsp honey
    • a drop of vanilla extract

After soaking feet for 10 minutes in warm water (with a little of your preferred body wash added)…..

apply the scrub to damp feet to exfoliate your feet to a butter-like smoothness…

…after a gentle shaping with clippers and emery board, apply two coats of nail polish.  We LOVE the new flat lavender hues.  We used shades from Sally Hanson and Essie for oh-so-pretty tootsies.

The Fabulous Foot Scrub also makes a great gift.

Confession:  Okay, we snapped these photos for the joy of blogging.  Because we are real moms with real kids, we are more likely to be found soaking our feet while sitting on the edge of the bathtub washing a little one’s hair that is littered with sand from the sandbox. But, the foot scrub really does work!

Share and Share Alike

That is what we teach our little ones.  Use these words of wisdom to save you money in the garden.

Spring is a great time of year to get out into the yard and tidy your flower beds.  Organize a plant exchange among your friends and neighbors.  Here are a few of our favorite plants that are easy to divide and share….

  • Daffodils
  • Hostas
  • Sedum
  • Lilies
  • Lavender
  • Mint
  • Irises

By swapping plants that are otherwise taking over your own yard, everyone on the block can have show-stopping flower beds full of a variety of perennials.

Strawberries and Asparagus are cheap and delicious this time of year.

Our families enjoy strawberries and asparagus all year long, but not as much as we do in the spring.  May is the prime month for these delicious fruits and vegetables.

Now is the time to save a little by buying strawberries and asparagus while they are in season. Not to mention that this month they will taste even more deliciously fresh than usual.

If you need a new recipe, check out our Asparagus Bundles as well as our Penne Pasta with Asparagus and Spinach and our Strawberry and Spinach Salad with Crumbled Blue Cheese and Walnuts featured this month.

Cash For Your Trash!

Here is a fundraising effort that is good for everyone.  By using TerraCycle you can collect items to be recycled, ship them to TerraCycle (they even pay for the shipping) and within a short time, TerraCycle will send your school a check.  You read this right, cash for your trash.

Choose from a variety of options to include in your collection process.  From juice pouches and chip bags to Solo cups and Sharpies, getting a grip on waste and a little dough in your school’s wallet is just a click away.

Our second graders were two of seven students who started a chip bag and juice pouch brigade at their elementary school.  Their ad campaign logo and slogan – “Help Our School Help The World” – you gotta love ‘em!
